NSW and Federal Government Combined COVID-19 Support Package - Parliament House in CanberraLast week the NSW state and Australian Federal Governments announced a combined support package to help households and businesses during the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.

The COVID-19 Disaster Payment will be expanded and increased under this agreement. The payment will increase to $600 if a person has lost 20 or more hours of work a week or $375 if a person has lost between 8 and less than 20 hours of work a week.

From 18 July 2021, the Disaster Payment will be available to those outside the Commonwealth declared hotspots in NSW that meet the criteria for the payment. It will also be offered to any other state or territory that experiences an extended lockdown.

Also, a new business support payment will be available for businesses with an annual turnover between $75,000 and $50 million who can demonstrate a 30% decline in turnover. Employee headcount must remain as at 13 July 2021. Eligible entities will receive 40% of weekly payroll, with a minimum payment of $1,500 per week and a maximum payment of $10,000 per week. Non-employing business will receive $1,000 per week.

The new support payment is called JobSaver, and will apply to expenses from 18 July 2021 onwards. The COVID-19 Business Grant will be limited to expenses incurred up until 17 July.

Applications for JobSaver payments open on Monday 26 July 2021.
